January 2013: National Eye Health Care Month

Regardless of your political views; with over 500,000 views of this Viral Video within 3 days of release and now over 5 million views after our first month, I was pleased to bring attention to January National Eye Health Care Month. In January, Ophthalmology promotes Glaucoma Screening to Prevent this leading cause of Blindness. Glaucoma affects about three million Americans - half of whom don't know they have this eye disease. As per the National Eye Institute: "Once Vision is lost from Glaucoma, it cannot be restored, the Damage is Irreversible. Studies have shown that the Early Detection and Treatment of Glaucoma, before it causes major Vision loss, is the best way to control the disease." An Eye Exam by your Ophthalmologist to screen for Glaucoma is included as a regular part of your medical health insurance program. As per U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services: "An Eye Exam NOW can Prevent Serious problems later, even Blindness. It is important that we make taking care of your Eyes a part of our overall health maintenance program."
